W październikową pierwszą niedzielę miesiąca skorzystałam ze wspaniałej, comiesięcznej okazji, by za darmo odwiedzić najlepsze zabytki i muzea Lizbony. Wypatrzone przeze mnie obiekty znajdują się w dwóch, sąsiadujących ze sobą dzielnicach, które turyści raczej omijają, jako położone z dala od centrum miasta, trudno dostępne – bezpośrednio dojeżdżają tam tylko autobusy, których funkcjonowanie w Portugalii pozostawia wiele do życzenia – a przy tym, i to chyba nie tylko moje zdanie, niezbyt ciekawe, z wyjątkiem tych właśnie dwóch miejsc. O czym właściwie mowa? O Restelo i Ajuda, o Muzeum Etnologicznym i pałacu królewskim.

On the October’s first Sunday of the month I took advantage of this great once-in-a-monthtime possibility to visit the best monuments and museums of Lisbon absolutely for free. The two spots chosen that time are situated in two neighbouring districts usually omitted by tourists, since they are located pretty far from the city centre, barely accessible (there are only city buses reaching them directly and the functioning of the bus service in Portugal leaves a lot to wish for) and apart from that, and it’s not just my opinion, there is nothing really interesting to do over there, maybe except for visiting these two facilities. What am I actually talking about? About the quarters Restelo and Ajuda and about the Ethnology Museum and a royal palace.

11. Autostopem na północ - cz.2, Braga i Guimarães, kolebka Portugalii. / Hitch-hiking to the north - part 2, Braga and Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal.

Po przybyciu do Bragi przechadzałyśmy się uliczkami centrum, między innymi Rua dom Diogo de Sousa, na której początku, witając przybyszów, stoi Arco da Porta Nova. Przy uliczce tej znajduje się także katedra Sé, główne wejście do świątyni znajduje się jednak z drugiej strony budowli. Doszłyśmy na Praça da República, skąd skręciłyśmy w okazałą Avenida da Liberdade. Doszłyśmy do Largo de Santa Cruz, gdzie znajduje się kościół o tym samym imieniu i Hospital de São Marcos. Odrobinę dalej znajduje się Dom Promienisty (Casa do Raio), którego fasada odznacza się głębokim niebieskim odcieniem zdobiącej ją azulejo. W czasie naszej wizyty był niestety poddawany remontowi i został praktycznie całkowicie zasłonięty przez rusztowania.

We were wandering through the streets of the city centre, for example Rua dom Diogo de Sousa beginning with an arch, Arco da Porta Nova, welcoming the visitors. There is also the Cathedral Sé situated at this street, but the main entrance to it is located on the other side of the building. We arrived to Praça da República and turned to the splendid Avenida da Liberdade. We reached Largo de Santa Cruz with a church bearing the same name and Hospital de São Marcos. A bit further away we found The Palace of Raio (Casa do Raio) with its deep blue azulejo facade. During our visit it was unfortunately undergoing some works and almost completely covered by scaffolds.
